Field trips

Following the online symposium and publication, the program facilitated reciprocal field trips in 2023 that prioritised face-to-face dialogue and exchange. Two Australian artists —Vernon Ah Kee and Mandy Quadrio—travelled to Taiwan, while two Taiwanese artists — Yuma Taru (尤瑪•達陸) and Ciwas Tahos (Lin, Anchi 林安琪) — visited Queensland.

During these two-week field trips, the artists met with key participants, Indigenous elders and communities, visited artist studios, museums and significant historical sites, participated in cultural events, and learnt about local histories, cultures, and languages. They also delivered public presentations and workshops at universities, museums, and major cultural festivals.

These in-person exchanges created opportunities for dialogue and the sharing of ideas, strengthened professional networks, and opened pathways for future collaboration, research, exhibitions, and publications.
