“In the Making: An Australia–Taiwan Indigenous Art Exchange” (生成之間: 澳洲與台灣原住民族藝術交流) is a bilingual documentary feature film exploring the processes and significance of cross-cultural collaboration and knowledge-sharing between Indigenous artists from Australia and Taiwan participating in a five-year exchange program.
Through interviews, creative collaborations, and moments of shared discovery, the film traces how artists build sustained relationships over time, and across linguistic, cultural, and geographic contexts. The film features Indigenous Australian and Taiwanese participating artists sharing Indigenous knowledge, stories, cultural practices and techniques, culminating in new collaborative artworks.
Positioning artistic collaboration as a research method, the film explores how Indigenous knowledge, cultural and creative practices are negotiated across distinct contexts. By foregrounding dialogue and relational exchange, it reveals the possibilities and complexities of cross-cultural collaboration, and the role of art in fostering dialogue, connection, and greater awareness of both cultural heritage and environmental stewardship. It also highlights how sustained engagement cultivates new forms of knowledge-sharing, collaborative authorship, and stronger Indigenous connections across the Asia-Pacific.
A program of screenings and talks is being presented across multiple venues internationally. The feature film is also screening at international film festivals and on national networks in Taiwan and Australia.
